Introduction to the BYU Faith and Learning Initiative
Alan Wilkins
BYU Faculty Center Director 2014-2018
From the beginning, BYU was meant to be a unique learning institution. Brigham Young told Karl G. Maeser, “I want you to remember that you ought not to teach even the alphabet or the multiplication tables without the spirit of God.” The BYU Faith and Learning Initiative aims to help faculty achieve the important charge to be spiritually strengthening as well as intellectually enlarging. It does this by focusing on three questions students ask: Who are you, professor? Who am I to you? Why does this course matter?
